Cool Cities

Global warming requires solutions at every level. Cool Cities not only brings real solutions at local levels it also showcases solutions for others to model and builds leadership to ensure solutions are implemented at state levels. Hybrid cars, energy efficient buildings, and renewable energy are just a few of the many ways to make this real.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 13 January 2008 - The WWF and Masdar, The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, today launched a “Sustainability Action Plan” to deliver the world’s greenest city – Masdar City. Located near Abu Dhabi International Airport, Masdar City will be the world’s first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city, aiming to exceed the 10 sustainability principles of “One Planet Living™”– a global initiative launched by the Worldwide Fund for Nature and environmental consultancy Bioregional. Masdar City’s electricity will be generated by photovoltaic panels, while cooling will be provided via concentrated solar power. Water will be provided through a solar-powered desalination plant. Landscaping within the city and crops grown outside the city will be irrigated with grey water and treated waste water produced by the city’s water treatment plant. The city is part of the Masdar Initiative, Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted investment in the exploration, development and commercialization of future energy sources and clean technology solutions. The six-square kilometer city, growing eventually to 1,500 businesses and 50,000 residents, will be home to international business and top minds in the field of sustainable and alternative energy. A model of the Masdar City will be unveiled on January 21, at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi. Ground breaks for the construction of the city in the first quarter of 2008.

My comments on this article:
This cool cities will develop the best manufacture that doesn’t effect our earth and it well help for reducing global warming and have a good life for our childrens.

My Footprint Result

Carbon Footprint CO2

Carbon foot print is the result of human activities Coal, oil and gas, are consumed by humans. Also our transportation produces carbon dioxide which affects our life. There are two ways to calculate the carbon footprint; one of them is to account for all carbon emissions of building cars for example metal, plastic, glass and other materials. The second calculation fossil fuels for example buildings.

Global Warming Effects

Global warming has many effects on the earth especially on the increasing of the earth’s temperature. The most common effect of global warming is the ice melting. Every year the North Pole melts from the high temperature of the earth. Also, some butterflies, foxes and alpine plants that move from north to a higher cooler area. If for example, those animals, butterflies and plants moved of course the humans will move if the situation remains the same. The next effect is the rise of sea levels has become faster. Every year the world has floods in North America and North Asia and these happen because of global warming.

Global Warming Causes

There are many causes of global warming caused by humans. The main cause is petrol industries, many of the countries which have petrol produce millions of barrels and the factories which produce it cause smoke in the air and we have air pollution. The second cause is there are not enough forests to absorb the extra carbon dioxide in the air; for example, many countries cut off the trees to build new buildings or factories and they don’t care about global warming and this increases the carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. After that there is the increasing of manufacturing. All the manufacturers companies like cars, planes, trains and ships produce gases like methane, nitrous and halo carbon. However, these gases affect the ozone layer and increase the earth’s temperature.

My Opinion

I think that Albert is trying to show the results of changes in the temperature since 1968. We know that the melting of the ice is affecting the North Pole and the cold countries. It seems to me that Albert shows clearly the effect of pollution on the ozone layer, because the ozone layer is thin. Also the movie explains the increased level of carbon dioxide each year. As the CO2 increases the earth’s heat increases. Albert tries to warn the European countries that if Alaska melts and the ice fall in the sea then Europe will be in dangerous case. I think that global warming is a serious problem; it may affect the next generations if we do not find a solution for it. Finally, I know that Albert has a good morals and he has worked hard and collect information since he was in the university. Also he visited many countries to see with his own eyes how the global warming has affected the earth.

Introduction

Global warming is the increase of the earth is temperature due to the human activity. Global economic activity causes pollution and contributes to global warming. Manufacturing companies like car companies, coal companies oil, and gas companies cause global warming. Even the population of the earth, that increases year by year, makes the situation worse.
